Contributor Guidelines (Vol. II) Entries about individual sites should be between 500 and 1,000 words long and include the following information, if known: • Circumstances of commission (date and how the project came to Manning’s firm); client background and involvement
Composing Your Entry • Organize your entry chronologically. • Use the most concise language possible. • Supply both botanical and common names of plants, if possible. • Try to speak to the development of the project (how it changed during the course of the design process). • Support your assertions and analysis with endnotes; for citation formats see the sample entry below. (We follow the Chicago Manual of Style; see their short guide to citations at http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_ • Please submit the entry via email in a Word or other common word-processing format. Do not use special formatting features.
Illustrations Please submit photocopies or low-resolution images of up to five illustrationsat least five illustrations (including photographs, drawings, and/or plans) that best illustrate your essay, credited appropriately. Include contact information for ordering reproductions and securing permissions to publish scans or photographs. (LALH cannot reimburse out-of-pocket expenses.)
Deadlines Please submit first drafts no later than September 30, 2010, unless other arrangements have been made. LALH will work with contributors on two rounds of edits and request final drafts by December 2010.
